Family Science Program Itinerary 2006

The USC Family Science Program on Catalina is a dream vacation for budding scientists of all ages, with exciting educational activities led by experts from the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center.



DAY ONE EVENTS

  • Learn all about the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center - our history, interesting research, and diverse educational programs
  • Take a dip in the incredible marine sanctuary that surrounds the lab
  • Check out the evening stars!

    DAY TWO EVENTS

  • Jump into a wetsuit (come on, it’s easy!) and enjoy a guided snorkeling tour
  • Plankton Collection and Lab: Find out who lives in a drop of seawater!
  • Learn about organisms that light up the oceans at night in our bioluminescence experience
  • Snorkeling again...but this time at NIGHT! You won’t believe your eyes (and yes, you get a flashlight!)

    DAY THREE EVENTS

  • Kayak the beautiful coast of Catalina
  • Lectures/Activities with our scientists who live and work the Wrigley Marine Science Center
  • Learn about the history of Catalina in a very hands-on way as you make your own soapstone carving
  • Parents and kids get their own unique evening adventure!

    DAY FOUR EVENTS

  • Early risers may enjoy a sunrise kayak on flat calm seas
  • Hiking, kayaking, snorkeling and relaxing (and a bit of time to pack!)
