The University of Southern California operates the Wrigley Marine Science Center to further the goals of the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies and as a service to the academic community. USC pays for most of the costs of operating the facility through a combination of funds from the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and the generousity of our many donors. We are particularly indebted to the Wrigley family for their generous support.
In October 2007, we are opening the Boone Center for Science and Environmental Leadership at the USC Wrigley Marine Science Center. The Boone Center provides as many as 20 very comfortable rooms, in cottages and apartments, that are perfect for small retreats, meetings, courses and other intensive programs. We also offer higher levels of food service and program support for groups that use the Boone Center. We also continue to offer standard dorm rooms and apartments at lower rates for the budget-conscious scientist and educator. These two types of accommodations can also be mixed.
The Wrigley Marine Science Center charges modest fees for most of the services we provide. The income from these fees currently covers about 1/3 of the basic operating costs of the lab (i.e. the true costs of running the lab are three times the amount recovered by the current fee structure). We request that scientists and educators who use the WMSC acknowledge this subsidy as a source of support for their research and education programs.
In addition to the general subsidies, USC also offers small grants and graduate internships that can cover some more of the costs for both USC and non-USC students and faculty. Please contact Ann Close, close@usc.edu, about the graduate internships and grants.
Generally, our facilities are only available to scientists, educators and guests who have a real connection to the mission of the Wrigley Institute or to the academic mission of USC. On occasion, we sometimes allow other "non-mission" groups to rent our facilities at higher rates than those listed below. This is always on a space-available basis, generally with shorter lead times than our core groups.

Meal times and charges are as follows:
All users of the lab are expected to pay a small daily fee to cover the basic academic infrastructure of the facility. This fee, currently set at $10 per person per day, covers the access to general use facilities, such things as the computer labs, individual use of the library, small boats, 2 SCUBA tanks per day, and the common use water tables and tanks. (this facility fee replaces the confusing mix of generally higher waterfront fees charged previously). Use of the waterfront, diving and science space sometimes requires special checkouts, certification or advance permission. Please contact Lauren Czarnecki for your special facility needs and the Dive Safety Officer, Gerry Smith, about the diving program.
If gear is left in a dive locker for a month or more without visits from the researcher, a fee will be applied.
The small, 12-15 ft. Boston Whalers, restricted to the small boat area, are covered under the general facility fee. The larger boats are available for additional fees.

The labs have common use sinks and most have running seawater tables. A few labs have fume hoods. Each cubicle is rented at a rate of $50/space/day.
