Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time . . .
Last year we came up with the idea of creating a book that commemorated Chamber Day 2007. We enlisted the aid of anyone
doing the event - day or night - to submit pictures for a book that came to be called “Through the Lens: A Chronicle
of Chamber Day 2008.” Click here to view
a sample of the book as a pdf document (~5Mb and will take a few minutes to
download- Best viewed in Adobe Reader as
side by side pages).
Now we’ll be the first to admit that we’re not exactly unbiased or objective in our opinion of the completed work. It’s
REALLY nice. It ended up being 94 pages of full-color high-gloss photos, with minimal text, and really did a great job
of capturing the flavor of the day from the parking lots at the landings in the early morning hours all the way through
to the parking structure at the Aquarium at the end of the (long) day.
But there was one small problem. As they say in Hollywood: It was a critical success, but a financial failure.
We ordered 200 of the books and ended up selling about 100 of them. So we’ve got another 100 that we’d like to offer to you.
And whether the lack of sales in 2007 is due to not wanting something you hadn’t seen, or not wanting a book, or the donation
level, or whatever, the reality is that we’ve still got them and they’re yours if you’re interested.
The donation for the book is $75 and all of that money (since we recouped our printing, setup, and distribution costs) will
go straight to the Chamber. What you’ll get in return is a really great-looking keepsake that not only chronicles the event
from last year, but which also gives a history of the Chamber, a history of the event, and a picture of every logo and
graphic that we’ve used from the first event in 1989 to the 19th event in 2007.
If you’d like a copy for yourself (and we sure hope there are 100 of you that will) then either give us a call at
310-652-4990 or on-line and get your copy. And bear in mind (and this is NOT a marketing gimmick) when these are gone,
they’re gone. We’re not going to print up any more.
So get yours while the getting’s good. This is a diving book that’s not only about what you do as a diver, but which
you’ll be proud to display for a long time to come.
